Full-time position to work regular office hours, MONDAY TO FRIDAY 8:15am to 5:00pm with occasional Saturdays.

OVERVIEW:

The primary goal of a Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant is to increase the efficiency and the productivity of the provider they are working for. The Scribe/MA allows the doctor to focus on what is most important, the patient. The Scribe/MA will be responsible for documenting accurate and detailed information of patient visits. You will provide the highest quality customer service to patients, adhere to practice protocols and processes, and effectively manage the volume of work without allowing quality to be compromised.

Your duties will include performing all clerical and information technology functions for a provider in a clinic setting. This includes primary responsibility of the operation of the electronic health records. The position must be able anticipate provider needs to facilitate the flow of clinic. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are especially important when working as a Scribe/MA. You must be adaptable and versatile since you will be responsible for many tasks.

Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the provider, including but not limited to:
Patient medical history, physical exam and vitals
Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
Prepare referral and orders as instructed by provider
Assist physician in back office duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs and patient history, and assisting with minor procedures.
Perform a variety of clinical related activities including applying and removing dressings, removing sutures/staples, applying and removing casts and splints.
Adhere to prescription refill protocol.
Perform CLIA waived lab tests
Perform Venipuncture
Preparation procedures and injections using aseptic technique
Clean Exam rooms, procedure room, stock supplies, inventory management, medication management, clean and disinfect medical equipment and patient care areas.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Perform basic triage per specific office protocol procedures.
Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.

Medical Scribe/MA Clerical Responsibilities:
Dictation/faxing/phone calls and clerical tasks. Scribes/MA’s are asked to prepare referral, orders, pharmacy orders as directed by the provider, via dictation or summary of the medical record. You will also ensure that copies of pertinent reports or tests are available to the provider in a timely manner. May be asked to research contact information for referring physicians, coordinate referrals, prepare operative reports, make phone calls, and other clerical tasks as assigned.
Scribes/MA’s also spot mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors. All addendums must be signed off by a physician. Medical Scribes ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Alert physician when chart is incomplete. You must comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential.
You will collect, organize and organize data for providers and other quality improvement efforts. Will assist in developing and maintaining systems to track patient follow up and compliance.
Scribes/MA’s proofread and edit all the provider’s medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Medical Scribe/MA EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Medical assistant school completion preferred
6 months experience as a Medical Scribe or 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in orthopedics or interventional pain management a plus.
Bilingual (Spanish or Creole & English) strongly preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Medical Assistant diploma or certification Preferred (not required)
