GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs unskilled manual labor in construction, maintenance, and service activities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of Parks Maintenance Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Sometimes designated as work leader on work projects.
 

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Assists in cleaning and maintaining parks, recreation facilities, landscaped areas, and other associated grounds and buildings.

Does a variety of grounds maintenance work; including mowing, weeding, tree and shrub trimming, policing parks, preparing ball fields, and related beautification and maintenance projects.

Operates light duty vehicles in picking up and delivering tools, materials, supplies, and transports employees to various job sites.

Performs minor construction, alterations, maintenance, and repairs on parks facilities and buildings.  Assists in the preparation of ball fields.

Responsible for maintaining, using, repairing, sharpening, and cleaning appropriate work tools.

Responsible for maintaining, preparing athletic fields for league and tournament play.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
 

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
(a)      Good physical condition.
(b)      Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
(c)      Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
(d)    Some knowledge of the general tools and equipment used in manual labor, lawn care, ball field preparation, etc.

Special Requirements
A valid drivers license

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Light duty truck, lawn mower, lawn blower, edger, weedeater, and miscellaneous hand tools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.

The employee is required to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
